607 Pages, Oh my!

Before entering the Golden Heart, I never really thought about how much paper my submission required. My total pages: 607 (6 copies of my partial and synopsis and one copy of my full). That is a freaking lot! At least a half a tree, I'm sure!

To the right, is the finished product, ready for mailing. I intended to ship it out yesterday but I had problems with my printer so it is going out tomorrow. I am afraid of how much it will cost to ship it to Texas, especially since I'm a worry wart and will Fedex it because I think snail mail is evil and it might never get there (that was a mouthful, I apologize). Sorry Canada Post, but you've disappointed me before.

Golden Heart Entry Complete!

I am proud to report I have finished my Golden Heart Entry! It is titled Blood Read and it is a 71,000 YA paranormal. It is the story of Petra Maras, a teen witch who is dragged into a murder investigation because of her cursed gifts when all she wants is normalcy and to be like everyone else. And as if that weren't bad enough, she ends up falling for the prime suspect.

When I finished it almost two weeks ago, I was in a state of shock. I spent months stuck on the first 20,000 words, only to write the remaining 50,000 within a three week span. The writing block I had was epic, and what finally got me through it was writing a chapter by chapter plot of the book. That way, if I wasn't feeling a chapter, I could move on to the next and know everything that happened before, lessening the potential for rewrites. Because of this, I think the plot is pretty solid, and I really only need to work on nit-picky stuff. The Golden Heart only judges the first fifty pages so I focussed on them last week. I also had a pubbed author go threw it and am waiting on comments from another. This week, I'll tackle the rest, ship it off, and cross my fingers.

As for Nano? What Nano? Unfortunately, with my busy life, something had to get thrown aside, and sadly, it had to be NaNo. Sigh. I really wanted to do it this year too, but life got in the way. Still, I am going to try my hardest to get 50,000 words by month's end. I'll let you know how that goes. 3000 words a day here I come...
